JANUARY 2003

I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas and that your New Year will be the best year yet.  The World Championship in Springfield was a super event with some tough matches.  In the end USA wound up as the Number One Team.  It was very close.  Next year the World Championship will be held in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  The dates as of now are December 1st to the 5th.  This will be the 25th World Championship and as Canada also hosted the 1st World’s you can expect them to really make this year special.  If you haven’t had a chance to see the results yet they are posted on the IAF and USA sites.  There are a couple hundred pictures posted on the USA site.

On another bright note Elections were held for United States Armsports just prior to the Championships.  The new President of United States Armsports is Denise Wattles.  With all of her experience I am sure that we can expect good things in the future.  We would like to thank Dave Devoto for all his hard work when he was President of USA.  There is an article on Denise posted on the IAF site and also on the USA site.  Make sure you check it out.

With the beginning of a New Year we have the crowning of the Armwrestler Of The Year for 2002.   After all the votes were counted in almost came down to a tie.  This year there were only 3 votes separating first and second place.  The person coming out on top was our State Director from Connecticut Josh Stark.  The runner up was our State Director from New Hampshire Harry Bean.  Third place went to our State Director from Rhode Island Allen Stilkey.  All in all there was only about 15 votes separating the top three.  Congratulations to Josh on being voted Armwrestler Of The Year by the membership.

The Points Championship was also as close as the voting for Armwrestler of the Year.  The top ten finishers are as follows:

1.  Allen Stilkey   2.  Harry Bean   3. Josh Stark   4.  Logan Miclette  5.   Kurt Howgate   6. Arlene Sargent   7. Priscilla Bean   8. Katrina StLaurent    9. Tim Brown   10.  Jan Schmeichel.    It was nice to see some Ladies in the top ten this year.  Congratulations to all the competitors and to Allen for winning the Point Championship.

Again I would like to remind our members that the IAF website is there for your convenience.  Feel free to use the many pages on there.  There is a message board and a photo gallery where you can upload your own pictures from your computer.
