INTERESTING TOURNAMENT AT VILHENA BAND CLUB

  The Vilhena Philarmonic Society of Floriana held a very interesting arm wrestling tournament at  their club in which no less than twenty six competitors took part. This event watched  by a good number of spectators was oraganised with the approval and technical help of the Malta Arm Wrestling Association (a member of the Malta Amateur Wrestling Federation).

  The tournament was made up of two divisions, one for seniors and the other for youths. On the other hand, the senior division was made up of two weight categories, the +80 and the – 80kg  run on a league bases. The +80kg was split into two pools with the first two of each contesting the semi finals. The youth division was on a knock out basis as the over all competition open to all weights.

  The +80kg was the one that aroused most interest. Pool A was won by Shaun Curmi of Valletta while Mark Mansueto of Floriana placed first in Pool B. Eventually Mansueto and Curmi met in the final  with the Floriana competitor winning 2-0 to win this category. Third place was clinched by Joe Cassar of Valletta.

  Another Floriana competitor, this time Kenneth Brincat, won all his four bouts in the –80 category to get first place followed by Giovanni Costa of Valletta and Mark Chetcuti of Rabat who got second and third places respectively.

  Joseph Felice of Zebbug beat Chris Attard of Floriana in the final of the youth competition while Jason Farrugia of Paula, considered the best current arm wrestler in Malta defeated Floriana man Mark Mansueto 2-0 in the final of the over all competition.
