(

)

by Yuko Shingu
General Secretary of Asian Armwrestling Federation

                                                                      April 22, 2004

I would like to thank and congratulate Mr. Mukhamedolla Agzamov, Mr. Vladimir Drexler and other officials of Kazakhstan Armwrestling Federation for realizing the III Asian Championship.

The Asian championship was a great success with approximately 100 competitors from 8 Asian nations, India , Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan (in alphabetical order).  (Please refer to the attached documents pg. 1-10 for the full results.)

All aspects of the championship, organization, refereeing, presentation, etc., were very impressive.

In the Asian meeting at this championship, the Asian representatives present unanimously decided to form a unified Asian federation, which was truly a major step in the history of armwrestling.

The Asian meetings were held over the two days, April 13 (preliminary discussion) & 14 (the congress), with the presence of Mr. Willy Deneumostier, the General Secretary of World Armwrestling Federation.  In the preliminary discussion, the importance of unification under one world body in order to be recognized by GAISF and IOC was stressed and the representatives shared their wish to form a democratic, modern, and efficient Asian armwrestling federation.  At the end of the discussion, the representatives finalized the agenda for the congress meeting.

The national representatives present in the congress meeting were Mr. Mukhamedula Agzamov of Kazakhstan , Mr. Mukambetov Djenibek of Kyrgyzstan, Mr. Fikrat Kerimov of Uzbekistan, Mr. Darigi Nadirhan of Tajikistan, Mr. Takashi Sakai of Japan (All Japan Armwrestling Federation), Ms. Yuko Shingu of Japan (In place of the president Mitsuo Endo, Japan Arm Wrestling Association), Mr. Fawad Subhani of Pakistan, and Mr. Tafreshian Reza Mohammad of Iran.

Some of the important items passed in the Asian congress are the following:

l   The official name of the newly formed Asian Federation is “Asian Armwrestling Federation (AAF).”

l    Mr. Mukhaemdola Agzamov of Kazakhstan was elected as the President of Asian Armwrestling Federation.

l    Ms. Yuko Shingu of Japan was elected as the General Secretary of Asian Armwrestling Federation.

l    It was unanimously voted that 8 other national representatives (In addition to those who were physically present in the meeting, Mr. Mitsuo Endo of Japan and Mr. Bimal Kumar Chanda of India , both of whom presented official letters of nomination) were to be on the executive committee as Vice Presidents until the election in the next Asian congress meeting which will be held at the time of this year’s World Championships.  (In Japan there exist two organizations, and representatives of both organizations were recognized in the meeting, but the two should resolve the differences and form one unified federation by next year.)

l   Uzbekistan was selected as the site of the Asian Armwrestling Championship in 2005.

l    The draft of Asian Armwrestling Federation’s constitution prepared by Ms. Yuko Shingu will be reviewed by all the concerned Asian federations and will be included in the agenda for the next Asian congress meeting.

The minute of the congress meeting is in preparation by Kazakhstan Federation in both English and Russian languages and should be sent to all the concerned Asian federations as soon as it is available.

I thank again the host federation of Kazakhstan and all the nations involved for the success of the championship.  My gratitude is also extended to those nations whose representatives supported us but could not be physically present such as China , Nepal, and Malaysia .

Asia is really a vast continent and we expect more and more nations to join us from now on.  I strongly believe that together we can make a great progress and continue to grow as the solid continental body of Asia .

Finally, I would like to add that the III Asian Armsport Championship and the Asian Armwrestling Federation are fully supported and officially recognized by World Armwrestling Federation, as you can see in the attached letter to Kazakhstan Federation from Mr. Fred Roy, the president of World Armwrestling Federation.

I wish heath, happiness, and success to all federations, officials, and athletes involved.

I look forward to working with you and hope to see you all at the World Armwrestling Championship this year.

                                                    Sincerely,

                                                    Yuko Shingu
